History

HS Martin

Since our establishment in 1934, it has been and will continue to be our policy to produce glassware of the highest quality. We have made a constant effort to locate and concentrate within our plant the highest skilled glassblowers and support personnel available. Our plant solicits the hard jobs, particularly those of a highly complicated nature involving the art of glassblowing and knowledge of high vacuum and distillation theory.

It is with great pride that our company, through it’s customers in higher education, health care, aerospace research, and the petroleum and chemical industries, participates in each new generation.

  • 1932

Howard S. Martin was a chemist who, in 1932 started his own company in Evanston, Illinois. During the next thirty seven years, his company had grown to include the production of x-ray and other electronic tubes, and was producing world class laboratory & scientific glassware. By the 1950's, H.S. Martin and Company was recognized worldwide and had facilities in both Illinois and New Jersey.

  • 1969

In 1969, Howard Martin sold his company to the Kontes Glass Company of Vineland, New Jersey. H.S. Martin and Company would remain in Evanston, but had now become Kontes/Martin Apparatuses with the Kontes/Martin logo can still be found in service around the world to this day.

  • 1980

In 1980, Kontes/Martin moved from Evanston, Illinois to the Kontes Glass Company's facility in Vineland, New Jersey. Shortly thereafter, in 1982, the Kontes Glass Company was sold to the Owens Illinois company. The Kontes family, however, did not include Kontes/Martin in the sale. Property was purchased in Vineland, New Jersey, and a new 15,000 sf facility was constructed. In 1983 the company was renamed H.S. Martin, Inc. and has remained in Vineland, New Jersey ever since.

  • 1982

In 1982 H.S. Martin began increased emphasis on process glassware. It became our opinion that a repair service was also needed by our customers. We often found companies with significant investments in equipment sitting idle while waiting for a single component to arrive.

  • 2019

In 2019, AG! acquired the assets of H.S. Martin, Inc.

We will continue to provide the products and services you formally purchased from H. S. Martin.

AG! Inc. shares the same values as H. S. Martin. We conducted an extensive search within our market looking for an opportunity such as this.
